Dolby 7.2 ....Living Room is Wired for Sound!!!

Since we are building a new house, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to put wiring in for surround sound.  Jen does not like the idea of bulky speakers in our living room and I don't like the idea of watching movies through TV speakers so we compromised on wiring for in-wall/in-ceiling speakers.

The orange box is where all of the speaker wires will terminate on a receptacle plate that will accept banana plugs from my receiver.  I am going to have to replace the single orange box with a double gang box at some point because all of the surround sound wiring plates I found take up two spots.  The black wires you see running up the wall are hdmi cables.  There is also an outlet behind the TV so we shouldn't see any cables.

The orange box on the left is for the left hand subwoofer.  It will have an RCA jack.  Towards the middle of the picture you can see a coil of wire that I zip tied up.  That is where the left hand in wall speaker will be.

Same as picture above but on the right.  The orange box is the 2nd subwoofer...the 2 in dolby 7.2.

You can see the coil of wire beside recessed light for in-ceiling speaker

Same as above on right side of room.

Heating, Plumbing, and Electrical

Lot of work done this week on plumbing, heating, and electrical.  We met with the electrician on Tuesday to discuss changes to the plan.  We added a couple outlets and fan boxes for ceiling fans in the bedrooms as well as switches to control the fan and lights.  We added cable boxes in the office and bedrooms and loft area at the top of steps.  We added recessed lighting in the kitchen, living room, and porch, as well as dimmers to control an number of lights.  We had them stub off the wiring in the kitchen under where the counter tops are going to be so that we could add under cabinet lighting bars.  We also had them run hdmi cables through the wall where the tv in the living room is going to be.  In all I think that adding this stuff now instead of later is a good move but if you are planning on building and want to deviate from the plan it is definitely something that you should budget for.  I took a ton of pictures of the walls with wiring and plumbing.  It will be nice to have these someday if we ever plan on doing any work on the house.  I'll actually know what is behind the walls.

Windows are in....Roof is on....Steps are up

I feel like at this point I can't even keep up with all of the new stuff that is changing with the house from day to day.  Roof is on with tar paper, shingles should be on next week.  Windows and doors are in.  Steps up to the 2nd floor are in so Jen and I could easily walk through the 2nd floor.

Tar paper on the roof already? Holy Crap!!!

I am just astounded at how quickly these guys are getting this house framed in despite it being crappy and snowy for most of the time.  When I drove by in the morning there was no roof.  When I drove by at lunch time this is what it looked like.  I guess they are supposed to start putting the windows in tomorrow?!?!  Crazy

2nd floor framing continued

These Pictures are from yesterday.  When I drove by this morning they were actually starting the roof.  From what I am told the framing should be done tomorrow and it should be under roof completely by the middle of next week.

2nd Floor Started

Putting 2nd story floor on.

All the walls inside are braced so that they can continue framing above.  Door way will have french doors between computer/office room and living room.

This is the kitchen.  There will be an island.  The room framed in behind it is the laundry and the pantry and the door into the garage.

This picture is taken standing against the wall in the living room through the dinette and into the kitchen.
